Our Responsibilities and Privileges: The Ministries of Encouragement and Edification – Part 1

In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, he twice gives the command “encourage one another” with an additional command to “build one another up” or edify. These are two of the most important commands a Christian may obey. They give evidence we are Christians while lifting up other believers in the warfare and struggles of the Christian life.

The Day of the Lord: A Day of Contrasts

This Lord’s Day, we enter chapter five of the New Testament book of 1 Thessalonians. The Apostle Paul is instructing the Thessalonian believers on “The Day of the Lord.” This day of all days is one of contrast. For the unbeliever, it is a day of terror and destruction. For the believer, it is a day of joy and deliverance. In light of this day, Paul is directing the Thessalonians believers on how to live for it will come suddenly like a thief in the night.

The 2nd Coming of the Lord Jesus; A Believer’s Joy and Unbeliever’s Terror

This Lord’s Day, we continue our journey through the New Testament book of 1 Thessalonians. Our text finds the Apostle Paul encouraging believers with the return of the Lord Jesus; a time of great joy for believers and judgment for all. Living in light of the 2nd coming of Jesus is the way of the Christian life.

This Lord’s Day, we continue our journey through the New Testament book of 1 Thessalonians. Our text finds the Apostle Paul describing the type of Christian who is being taught to love by God. It is the believer who contented living a quiet life, not meddlesome in the lives of others and working hard in their specific calling by God.
