Pleasing God, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Joy in Dark Places

TAKE UP AND READ.  Our church family’s book for the month recommendation for August 2024 is titled Joy in Dark Places by Thomas Parr, published by Reformation Heritage Books, paperback, 167 pages.  This is an excellent book helping us understand and apply the joy of the Lord in a fallen world. Parr introduces his book with these words, “Christians often find themselves to be miserable instead of joyful, and deep down they know something is very wrong. They are aware that their loss of joy is tragic, but they think they can’t help it, that in the end it doesn’t really matter, and that having a joyful life is an unattainable ideal. This book was written to dispel this hopelessness and to kindle joy despite the multitudes of things trying to snuff it out.”  I believe chapter one – Joy and Its Obstacles –  is worth the price of the book, however, there is much gold to mine from the pen of Thomsas Parr.  Highly recommend you read this book and discover the joy-filled Christian life!
