LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23 – The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
THEME OF THE DAY. A NEW START IN A NEW DAY IN A NEW YEAR. Hard to imagine today we enter the year 2025. You may recall the fear that centered around “Y2K” and the gloom and doom that was supposed to happen when the calendar rolled over to the year 2000. That seems so long ago, but then again, not so. I think we each may relate to that seeming contradiction. Life seems long at times but as we grow older, no, it does not.
It is equally so with the turnover of a new year. We realize life goes by fast. Life is also hard as it whizzes by. The Old Testament saint Job gives us sound life advice that balances its speed and difficulties. By heeding Job’s words, we won’t find ourselves surprised when difficulties and trouble in life come or we are awakened to the brevity of life. He said, “Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble” (Job 14:1).
What does our Lord say to us about His steadfast love and mercies? Two things. First, both are endless – the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases and His mercies never come to an end. Let this settle into our minds and hearts. This truth means there are no limits to God’s love and mercy. We never need to feel God’s love and mercy are exhausted due to our many sins. We may always come to Him when we sin knowing forgiveness is ours because of His never-ceasing love and mercy!!
The second truth is when God’s love and mercy are faithfully renewed to us – every morning. Wow! Every morning is a new start in a new day in our walks with the Lord. Here is truth liberating our hearts in the daily battles against sin. Those failures and sins of yesterday? Gone. Washed away by the new day love and mercies of our God!
So, as we start a new day in a new year let’s celebrate the new day displays of God’s love and mercy. They will lead us all the way home to heaven; the place where the need for God’s love and mercy in dealing with our sins will be no more!
PRAYER: “Father, I thank You for a new day in a new year with Your new day mercy and love.”
QUOTE: “What a wonder God’s grace is that each day is a new start walking with the God of all grace.”
