PSALM 138:8 – The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.
THEME OF THE DAY. WHAT GOD STARTS, GOD FINISHES. Okay, let’s confess it. All of us. We have started many home projects needing to be finished. Also, probably a shelf or a stack of books exists in our homes with some of them left unfinished.
Aren’t we glad God does not leave things unfinished? Imagine for a second if Philippians 1:6 – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ, read like this, “And I hope that he who began a good work in you doesn’t forget to complete it at the day of Jesus Christ.” That would bring no comfort, no encouragement, and no future hope of heaven and conformity to the Lord Jesus. Our Christian lives would be lived walking on eggshells with no assurance or confidence, but it doesn’t read this way, praise His Name! And that brings great assurance not only for the future. It impacts each day of our lives and especially when life gets hard. Here is how.
What God promises, God fulfills. What God starts, God finishes. What God commits Himself to, God completes. And He has purposed every believer in His Son will be conformed into the image of that Son. See every trial, every difficulty, every tough circumstance, every challenging situation, and every painful season in life as the work of God fulfilling His purpose of making us like Jesus. This truth enables us to obey the Apostle Paul’s exhortation in the second chapter of his letter to the Philippians; an exhortation that defines the daily direction a Christian is supposed to live – Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13).
So, for each new day the Lord gives us, remind ourselves throughout the day of today’s scripture. God is at work. His purposes for us will unfold in the normal course of the day. Yes, it will hurt at times. Yes, it will challenge our trust in Him when we don’t understand how He is working out His purposes for us. But we may meet the challenge with confidence because the fulfilling of God’s purposes for us are guided by Divine Hands of steadfast love. And there will never be a time when He will stop fulfilling His purposes in us. We need never fear He will forsake the work of His Hands!
PRAYER: “Father, I praise You for Your unfailing commitment to fulfill Your purposes in and for me.”
QUOTE: “God has committed to make us like His Son and what He commits to, He fulfills.”
